Trophy Trout in New
Zealand
New video paints an attractive picture
| Far too many fishing videos are made to sell tackle or to promote
tourist destinations. This beautifully produced account of fishing for
trophy brown trout in New Zealand is the exception which proves the rule.
It is simply a celebration of fantastic flyfishing.
The video has been produced by Bruce Masson and covers three days of
fishing in small streams on the South Island of New Zealand. The streams
may be small but the trout most certainly are not. In NZ a
"trophy" trout is one over 10 lbs. Interesting that they still
use the old imperial weights system for their fish and leader breaking
strains - whatever happened to metrication!
By the way, if the strain of brown trout growing to those amazing sizes
looks familiar to Scottish anglers, it may just be that they are descended
from eyed ova exported to New Zealand almost a century ago from Loch
Leven.
This is a "nice" video that any flyfisherman will enjoy
watching - not least because the anglers it features are
"ordinary" guys like you and me. They even exclaim
"bugger" when they miss a strike.
